Whozat & Google face off in geography contest

Sunday, July 20th, 2008

I just searched for the Austrian Consulate in Los Angeles in Google, and got this:

Google confuses Austria and Australia

For those of you confused, Austria is in Europe, Australia in the Pacific Ocean.

The same search in Whozat yields, well, the Austrian consulate in Los Angeles –in addition to the Austrian embassy in the USA and a number of semantically related links.

“Try searching for yourself or for a friend, you may surprised by what you may find”, writes Jacob Morgan of J Morgan Marketing. ”

“Whozat?” also has a few extra form fields you can use to help narrow your search down even further.  These form fields allow you to enter in a particular location, sex, (male/female), and age.

whozat refine results

This little extra step of refining the results really allows you to get accurate search results for people.”Read his full review here.

Try searching for yourself or for a friend, you may surprised by what you may find

Sunday, July 6th, 2008

Thanks to the “It’zat” and “Not’zat” drop down arrow next the results, I can tell “whozat?” wether or not I feel the search results are accurate or not.  After clicking “It’zat” next to my blog, I now tell the search engine what I want to see when I do a search for “jacobmorgan.”…Try searching for yourself or for a friend, you may surprised by what you may find.

“Whozat?” also has a few extra form fields you can use to help narrow your search down even further.  These form fields allow you to enter in a particular location, sex, (male/female),This little extra step of refining the results really allows you to get accurate search results for people.  Whozat? is still in beta so I’m sure over the coming months they are going to really work on improving their search and their feature set.  As of now, it looks like their primary revenue model comes from advertsing.  Whozat? has received a fair amount of praise over the last few months…Give Whozat? a shot and let me know what you think.

Impressed by the thoroughness

Friday, July 4th, 2008

What a pleasure it is to build something for people and have people take the time to acknowledge our work. Read Doug’s testimonial below:

I’m impressed by the thoroughness of your search engine, and by it’s ability to cull irrelevant links. I found several referees to myself that I had never found through Google or and of the other search engines.

–Doug Collins, Hermosa Beach, California

Thanks, Doug! We are also getting a great deal of suggestions from users, and will be working on incorporating them in the future. Keep them coming!

Happy Independence Day!

Reality Bytes on Whozat: “More about old friends and exes than I ever have [found] on Google”

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

“It’s called Whozat and after a half-hours worth of messing about, I’d found out more about old friends and exes than I ever have on Google. It’s also weird to see that as soon as you type in my name, not even using my middle name, photos of me instantly appear, as well as my Facebook page, etc.

I’m always aware that as a journalist and blogger I leave a huge web trail in my wake, but seriously, this is crazy. I even found out information on people who have been pretty much living off the grid for years”.
